I didn't know that. I just remember a skating special where they ranked the jumps from easiest to hardest in terms of takeoff. The Axel was number one, then Lutz, Flip, etc. The Loop was ranked number five out of six (salchow). So from that, I assumed it was relatively easy.

The Triple Loop is an easy jump?? I think so many skaters would disagree with you on that. Without the aid of a toe pick, edge jumps are hard. At least the Salchow gives you momentum and lift from the free leg. The Loop doesn't even give you that; just your arms. If you don't go up straight, it's near impossible to save.

I bought the Stanley Black Orchestra CD, and their version was not the same one Kristi/Sasha used. Sooooo disappointed because I've been looking for it for years. I especially love Kristi's slow section with the spanish guitar and strings. I don't suppose you have any other leads for this version? Stanley Black's was closer than the others I've heard, but still not the same. Maybe I could contact Kristi directly... I'm that desperate! :)

Yeah MK and Kristi are both great champions, but Kristi was fully capable of winning that head to head meeting with MK. Which is incredible considering MK was considered by far the best amateur skater in the world, that event was before her slump and subsequent losses to TL remember. Kristi on the other hand had been a pro for 5 years. Like you said however she kept her technical skating at the highest level as a pro while evolving further as an artist. Just incredible.

I have to agree with raich; Kristi made an uncharacteristic error that night (I believe a fall on a 2-Axel w/c she could do in her sleep.) If Kristi skated both programs cleanly, the judges would've given it to her despite the competition favoring amateurs. Kristi continued to improve & evolve as a PRO; w/ the exception of 3Sal & more intense training, she did EVERYTHING in her PRO programs (spins, jumps, transitions, intricate choreography, etc) as if she were still amateur. BTW, I like MK too!

At the Ultimate Four Kristi was a 25 year old pro who hadnt done amateur competition for 5 years, and Kwan was in her prime. Who do you think should have the advantage. Still even with that Kristi won the short program when both were clean, and Kwan only because Kristi fell in the 2nd program. If that silly meeting shows anything only that Kristi is superior. Look how bad Kwan was getting at only 24, imagine her facing the world champ in such an event at 25 had she been retired 5 years.

i half agree with you..im torn between kristi and michelle being the greatest. michelle has the longevity and titles but kristi has the olympic gold medal. but michelle beat kristi in competion..i believe it was the 1996 ultimate four. so im very torn because i love them both...i actually liked kristi before michelle. but i totally agree with you about tara and sarah...that was basically best skate of your life on the right day.

It kind of has. Joannie Rochette ever said that when she entered Ladies' seniors the triple lutz was the standard, right now a triple-triple is. Yamaguchi was just better than her field. In any case, maybe it's possible that most women can't do the triple-triples. Even if the bar is raised, they'd never rise to match it especially the older ones--Kwan--since as you get older the harder it is to learn jumps. Anyway, all the young American ladies now do do triple-triples--Nagasu, Flatt.

You got that right!!

I agree. Tara's jumps have bad entries (due in part to her roller skating background). Kristi has the complete package; artistry & the triple-triple combo. Even the 2006 Olympic Gold medalist didn't have a triple - triple combo. And Kristi's moves in between jumps are all connected, speedy and appropriate to the music.
