A very touching movie.

It has to be remebered that he has just been a slave trader, killed his brother in a fit of jelously, climbed a huge cliff carrying a tonne of equipment behind him, and had his life spared by the natives he once hunted for profit. Though my favorite scene is the one at the end, where Irons and DeNiro look upon each other dying, brothers again, each having met the same reasult, despite the path.

THE MOST touching part is that he has come to God.... a murdering slave trader..... A more powerful moment in film I have never seen

This is indeed the best scene from "the mission" Mr de niro does both crying and laughing at the same time, with a perfect score behind...RDN is the best actor ever. check out goodfellas, casino, raging bull, taxi driver, mean streets, cape fear etc etc.

The MOST touching film I have ever seen... how a cruel, barbaric, athiestic bully comes to GOD.... not told in a preachy way.... a very moving story... heartbreaking and joyful..... The music is certainly superior as well... thank you for posting this

I agree with Raaami. As for Arondeus, try reading the actual words of Christ in the Bible. He was a peaceful man. It's just that one can twist his/her religion to fit their means.

The movie and music are powerful because they show so effectively the incompatbility of violence and man's desires and that of Christ. The movie is great because it can do this. Who's side could any rational person be on? How could the slavers' chose otherwise? That is not Christ at work.
