2010 Nissan GT-R V Spec Hits the Nürburgring

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/GeneralFuture/articleId=125591 Now that the standard 2009 Nissan GT-R is in full production, development of the 2010 Nissan GT-R V Spec is ramping up. This is a lightweight version of Nissan's new supercar and it's scheduled to go on sale next year. In addition to its notable reduction in weight, the track-rated GT-R V Spec is also expected to get a slight increase in horsepower over the 480 hp of the standard model. Seen here lapping the Nürburgring test track in Germany, the 2010 Nissan GT-R V Spec has several visible upgrades. Up front, a small aerodynamic splitter with twin air intakes has been added to the front airdam. It doesn't look like much, but given how dependent the GT-R is on its aerodynamics, even a small addition like this has a big impact. A slightly revised rear spoiler, possibly made of carbon fiber, is also visible in back. A set of lightweight six-spoke wheels is another visible upgrade. We can't tell if the Bridgestone Potenza tires wrapped around the new wheels are any bigger, but they're probably a slightly stickier compound. Also visible are new composite brake rotors and slightly revised calipers. We've been told these are for testing purposes only at this point and will only be used if they show considerable improvement over the standard setup. Considering that a stock GT-R turned in the shortest 60-0-mph stop we've ever recorded, the addition of these carbon brakes on the GT-R V Spec isn't assured. In addition to the weight-reduction program, the 2010 Nissan GT-R V Spec is also expected to surpass the 500-hp mark. Although rampant speculation on the Internet suggests the GT-R is already developing more than 500 horses, our recent dynamometer testing says otherwise. Even if this GT-R only adds another 25-50 hp, however, its reduced weight should make it considerably faster than the base model. Expect to see some official Nürburgring lap times later this summer.
