Apple PowerBook 17 Frequent Display Defects

PowerBooks 17# from a batch of machines with serial number starting W85 produced early 2005 show frequent display screen defects in the form of vertical lines and flickering, translucent zones. The defects start showing up after 12-18 months and the defects continue multiplying making the screen useless. Apple does not recognize the defects.
